Download

Full game

Download the game either from FileShack

or

wget -c http://ftp.games.skynet.be/pub/wolfenstein/et-linux-2.60.x86.run

It might be that a newer version is available in the meantime. Check FileShack or your favourite download site.

Patch

If you have already installed a ET version you can download a patch Download patches from the FileShack

or

wget -c http://ftp.games.skynet.be/pub/wolfenstein/et-linux-2.60-update.x86.run

It might be that a newer version is available in the meantime. Check on FileShack

Installation

Full Game

Run the file from where you have downloaded

sudo sh ./et-linux-2.60.x86.run

and it should bring up a GUI to help you through the process. (By default PB is selected, keep this intact since you can't join a lot of servers without it).

Update Old Versions of Necessary

To apply the patch, run the file from where you have downloaded

sudo sh ./et-linux-2.60-update.x86.run

Start

Just run Applications > Other > Enemy Territory.

Alternatively, in a console just type:

et

Troubleshooting

Permission Errors

Change the permission with this command:

sudo chmod +x et-linux-2.60.x86.run
sudo chmod +x et-linux-2.60-update.x86.run

Downloading Maps

Verify that the directory that it downloads maps to is chmoded for access by your user! If you do not do this, you'll be unable to download and install the maps & other files you need to join games!

sudo chown -R user:user ~/.etwolf/

Replace user:user with your own user name & user group (usually the same name, in Ubuntu).

Sound Issues

If you don't get any sound try killing esd before play:

killall esd; et; esd

If you really need to do this in order to play, it might come in handy to create a script for it. Create a new text file called start-et and add this text to it:

#!/bin/sh
killall esd
et
esd

Now you'll have to make it executable and put it somewhere where you can execute it:

chmod a+x start-et
sudo cp start-et /usr/bin

If you don't want to put it on /usr/bin you don't have to, but remember to give a full path to this script whenever you execute it or to be in the same directory as the script.

If you don't get any sound and see the following error message message in the console:

/dev/dsp: Input/output error
Could not mmap /dev/dsp

you will need to do the following in addition to the step above:

sudo -s
echo "et.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
echo "et.x86 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/oss
