I am a contributer of the Best of Ubuntu Community Forums Tutorials documentation project. This project provides tutorials from the Ubuntu Community Forums readable in the Yelp browser. The eventual goal is to provide a package in Universe for users that will supplement the Ubuntu System documentation.
Your tutorial about <subject> is being considered for inclusion in the Best of Ubuntu Community Forums Tutorials package. The Forums are licensed as Creative Commons 2.5. The collaboration and cooperation that is at the heart of the open source movement depends on good relationships between developers. Therefore it is our goal to get each authors consent to include their tutorial in the boucft package. Ubuntu and The Best of Ubuntu Community Forums Tutorials package are about collaboration and working together. Collaboration reduces redundancy of work done in the Free Software world, and improves the quality of the software and documentation produced.
For your convenience we have provided a link to the Ubuntu Forums post.<<BR>>

  1. title Getting permission to use a tutorial

Introduction

It is important to gain permission from the original poster of a tutorial before incorporating it into the package. Although the Forums are licensed as Creative Commons 2.5 It is "good form" and builds the community to do this. In the event you cannot gain permission you should find another tutorial or write one.

Templated requests

Use these templated requests as a guideline if you are uncomfortable for asking permission. As a minimum a request for permission should include:

  • The link to the tutorial
  • The subject matter of the tutorial
  • A request to use the tutorial
  • An explanation of the purpose of Boucft
  • Inform the tutorial writer that they will be attributed and that a link will be made to the original forum tutorial thread.
