Introduction
Brief description of items in the System -> Preferences menu.
List of Preferences applications
- About Me - Enter personal information.
- Assistive Technology Preferences - Enable and configure features like the Screen reader, magnifier and on-screen keyboard.
- Desktop Background - Choose a desktop background.
- Font - Configure application fonts.
- Keyboard - Configure Keyboard features, including accessibility features.
- Keyboard Shortcuts - Configure certain keys for certain behaviours (also enables putting those ideological keys to good use).
- Menus & Toolbars - Configure you menu.
- Mouse - Likewise with the mouse.
- PalmOS Devices - Configure your Palm device (see also: gnome-pilot applet).
- Power Management - Configure power features, including what your machine does when you hit the power button.
- Preferred Applications - Set default Web Browser, Mail application and Terminal
- Remote Desktop - Allow other people to see your desktop
- Removable Drives and Media - Configuration what your device does when, for example, you insert a disk or pendrive. Also adjust settings for all sorts of devices.
- Screen Resolution - Set screen resolution, refresh rate and rotation.
- Screensaver - Choose a screensaver and set idle time to activate it. You can also set your machine to lock after a time, so you have to enter a password to exit the screensaver. To lock your screen manually, press Ctrl-Alt-L.
- Sessions - Primarily for adding and removing startup applications (see also 'BUM').
- Sound - Configure sound and set sounds for system events.
- Theme - Change the look and feel of your theme.
- Windows - Action to perform when double-clicking titlebar, and other settings.
